Certification of Onshore Wind Development
The IEA projected nearly $2.8tn in energy investments in 2023, with a considerable focus on clean energy and the need to address Indigenous land appropriation, unsustainable material sourcing, and rising community opposition. In response, Equitable Origin launched a lifecycle-based supplement to the EO100™ standard in 2024: to promote ethical leadership in onshore wind and solar projects while exploring additional Energy Transition standards. New draft supplements include:

The EO100 Journey in Renewable Energy
Equitable Origin (EO), founded in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on promoting environmental and social performance in energy development, with an emphasis on Indigenous rights. Over nearly a decade, EO has researched and developed standards in renewable energy, including human rights investigations in Oaxaca, Mexico, and community engagement in Kenya from 2015 to 2017. In 2018, they analyzed responsible sourcing in renewable energy and, in 2019, mapped the sector’s impacts on the Sustainable Development Goals. Recently, from 2022 to 2023, EO partnered with the Clean Energy Buyers Institute to create a due diligence framework for responsible renewable energy sourcing. Operating across North America, South America, and Europe, EO reinvests revenue from its Energy Certification program into Indigenous Peoples’ digital inclusion and environmental monitoring. Through EO100 for Renewables, they aim to enhance transparency, comparability, and social justice in the transition to net zero.
